Gautam Gupta - a passionate photographer - has eyes that capture both the soul and the emotions of his subjects, be it a child, an aged person, a flower or a wall of stones. He breathes life into even the inanimate objects, so much so, that they want to tell you a story.
A young enthusiastic creative person, an electrical engineer by training, Gautam has worked closely with people at the grass root level in the social sector early in his young life. He began with photography as a tool to document his work environment – rural and urban India- and was soon engulfed by the fascinating insights it offered of people and the world they lived in. A gypsy at heart, he would wander into people’s hearts and homes, on to roads less traveled, into wilderness with his camera, an appendage.
Soon fun became passion- and passion became his very breath, as he graduated from amateur to being a committed photographer, largely self-taught. In a short duration, he hungrily searched every avenue for knowledge, skill and experimentation, ranging from color to monochromes, and portraits to nature photography and still life.
His specialty is his unique perspective of everyday things and ordinary people, finding extra-ordinariness where others may see none. His inner eye zeros in on the soul of the subject and unfolds a tale of unspoken words. He continues to be a true learner.
He has a knack of making anyone, young or old, comfortable, developing a genuine bond with his subject (live or inanimate), such that he brings out their natural hues and character, very candid and true. He has travelled along unbeaten paths across India for the One Moment that imprints the mind. A total ‘People’s Person’, he has done photo shoots for special occasions and also randomly capturing the intricate nuances of life within life.
A photograph is not just a record of what you see. It is the unfolding of the intimate relationship of the world with the Lens and the Eye of the photographer. Gautam leaves a piece of himself for you with every photograph, for keeps.
“I feel with my gut; I shoot with my heart.”.
